Finding the Right Fit:  College Planning for Gifted Kids

I will be the featured presenter at Coppell Gifted Association’s May 2009 speaker series.

You might think that college planning for gifted kids is easier in that they are more likely to get accepted, provided that they live up to their academic potential. In reality, being gifted can actually make the college decision harder. Plus, the social and emotional needs of gifted students can require some additional thought to get the right fit.

The presentation will include tips for both middle school and high school students about preparing for college and finding the right fit.

  • May 5, 209, 7 p.m., Coppell High School Lecture Hall, Coppell TX
  • Admission $5 / free for members of Coppell Gifted Association

Colleges That Change Lives college fairs for 2009

Loren Pope wrote a great book about 40 great liberal arts colleges that are often overlooked in the college admissions frenzy.  (Or course, so many people now read his book that these colleges are getting larger numbers of applications.)  The colleges do a  joint road show to 26 major cities across the country, which is helpful since these schools are spread across the country.    Check their website to see if there will be a college fair in your city.

I am so happy to read this as a gifted student. I have been certified gifted since I was 6-7 years old. I am now 21 and a college drop out. I went from reading and doing math on a college level in 1st grade to failing math twice in college and driving myself crazy because the teaching methods and lack of support in school made me feel stupid. I have now taken a break from corporate America and now want to go back to school. i greatly appreciate your blog it let me know I am moving in the right direction.
